Proverbs 3:27
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.

Many of us unconsciously delay giving thanks for those who have done good to us. And so it is with one of the biblical figures, Mordecai. Mordecai was a cousin as well as a father to Esther (Esther 6:3). He got a merit because of his efforts to cancel the eunuchs’ plot to kill King Ahasuerus. Through Esther, he told King the plot. The King responded and the plot was proven. Then the leader of the eunuchs was killed. However, Mordecai got no rewards for his efforts.
Besides having done good to the king, it is recorded that Mordecai had previously done good to Esther. Mordecai’s plan to save the king eventually changed Esther’s destiny—she became the queen. But Mordecai was indifferent though he did not receive any rewards either from the king or Esther.
However, Mordecai, which obeyed the Lord, finally received unexpected reward through Haman’s act trying to steal the reward (Esther 8:1). Then he was noted as God’s vessel; for saving his own country.
This story teaches us that we may not always get thanks after doing good to others. As Mordecai expected nothing from the king and Esther, we should not be discouraged when people do not say thanks to us. Yet God always keeps the record of our good deeds which will change our life later.
We have no reason to not do good, though we never receive any rewards, because God will count every good deed.
