You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Bible Reading for a Year [bible]prove1[/bible]; [bible]revel7[/bible]; [bible]esthe7-8[/bible]

Since I was a child until I am grown up, I like to collect ornaments that can be lit in the dark, which is commonly referred to ‘glow in the dark’. The shape is diverse, there is a form of stars, the moon, dolls, lips, hearts, etc. This ornament will glow and look so beautiful when it is in a dark place. In contrast, the beauty will be lost if there is light.

After a few moments staring at the glowing in the dark ornaments on the wall, I remember the Lord Jesus declares that all believers are the light of the world. As believers, we certainly know exactly about this. However, have we been what we suppose to be—light in the dark?

Of course we are very grateful and fortunate when Jesus calls us light of the world. It means that we have a very significant role. Being the light is not only measured by how much light energy we have, but also how dark and spacious place that we have illuminated. We have to be a light in a dark place, because the light will be useful and look beautiful only when it is in the dark. However, nowadays many believers have lost the beauty of their lights, because they are not where they should be. The believers who is bright and should illuminate dark places, stays in a bright place. You can imagine, how could it be when the light is in the light? Surely it is no longer useful and its beauty will not appear.

In this case the Lord Jesus himself is an example for us. When the Lord Jesus ministered in the world, He did not only serve in the synagogue, in fact most of His time spent outside the synagogue. If you read the history of His ministry, we can know what places the Lord Jesus had visited. To be sure, He prefers a place that needs to be illuminated, such as at home publican, market, hills, lakes, and even a place that allows a prostitute coming to Him.

As a believer who is the light, have we been in the right place? Are we already functioning properly? We should reveal light God has given us to all people, so that others can see us clearly. Jesus himself said that the lamp should not be put under a bushel. Therefore, the light will not work best when placed under a basket or in a closed state. In this case, we are not asked to shut down and blocking the light of God that is in us. Instead, God wants us to shine out, emit light of His glory in the midst of this dark world.
