1736Genesis 49:10
"The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the people."
Bible Reading for a Year: Psalms 29; Philippians 1; Job 38
This verse is the last words from Jacob to Judah. It is a prophecy contains blessings for Judah, specifically for Judah’s descendants which going to be leaders or kings. And the prophecy was fulfilled!
The meaning of Judah is giving thanks or praise. What are Judah’s strengths? Since he was young, Judah’s life quality as a leader for his brothers has emerged. Every word, idea, and advice were always heard and obeyed by his brothers.
When his brothers tried to kill Joseph, he firmly prohibited (Genesis 37:26-27). His advice was heard so Joseph did not have to die. The same situation happened when Joseph pretended to arrest Benjamin and let him be a slave in Egypt.
While his brothers could not do anything, Judah bravely spoke out to defend Benjamin, and he even offered himself to be Joseph’s slave; as a replacement for his younger brother. “please let your servant remain instead of the lad as a slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers.” (Genesis 44:33)
Yakub memberkati Yehuda dengan berkat kekuasaan dan kepemimpinan karena selama hidupnya ia telah menunjukkan karakter sebagai seorang pemimpin sejati!
Jacob blessed Judah with blessing of authority and leadership because he has shown the attitude of a true leader during his life!
