With circumstances around us, do we still have joy? Many people
nowadays are dealing with stress and depression through pressure in life, at
office, in society, and in family. But we should not be influenced but our
circumstances. Why? It’s because joy is very important for us, both mentally
and physically.
The son of David, the wise man Solomon, wrote, “A merry
heart makes a cheerful countenance: but by the sorrow of the heart the spirit
is broken.” (Proverbs 15:13). He also said, “All the days of the afflicted are
evil: but that is of a merry heart has a continual feast.” (v. 15). The sense
of humor is lubricants for the soul; therefore, it is very important to have a
sense of humor in this life.
The sense of humor is what makes us laugh—at things that
even can hurt others. There are some things we have to be able to laugh at:
First, we can laugh at our failures and mistakes, and keep
learning from the lessons.
Second, we can laugh when we are criticized, and accept that
critic without being discouraged, but with desire to improve ourselves.
Third, we can laugh or be joyful even though life seems so
hard.
A joyful heart is a heart that can laugh through joy and sorrow. We are joyful not because of circumstances, but because we realize that in everything, God is there and He is the source of real joy.
