Psalm 136:1

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Today, we live in a disposable culture. As reflected in the way we use things that are made to be thrown away, such as razors, water bottles, lighters, paper plates, plastic eating utensils. Those products are used, tossed, and then replaced.

It should not happen to relationships. Many times people see true commitment in relationships as optional. As a result, many marriages struggle to survive. Long-term employees are discharged just before retirement for cheaper options. A highly revered athlete leaves to join another team. Those things occur when commitment does not last.

But God is not like that. He is an unchanging God, for His loving mercy endures forever. In Psalm 136, the psalmist praises God’s wonderful promise by making statements about His character, mercy, and wonder.

The psalmist punctuates the wonder of His creation, the rescue of His people, and His tender care for His own (Psalm 136:4-26). God’s mercy which gives us hope is way different from what this temporary world offers. Therefore, let us imitate God’s faithfulness in our life, even in the small things, so we can celebrate the psalmist with the grateful heart!

Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.
