Matthew 13:3

"Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow."

Bible Reading for a Year: Psalm 142; John 19; Zechariah 4-6.

In the first century, farmers are known to have a habit of planting the seeds of the plant by sprinkling them randomly while walking along the field. But the wind that blows sometimes bring some seeds scattered into the street, some are landed on fertile soil and grow well.

This is similar like the parable about the seed that Jesus revealed (Mark 4:26). The phrase was actually addressed to each of us to spread the seed of the Word. And we do not always know where to spread them. This message was also re-emphasized by the Apostle Paul in (1 Corinthians 3:6-8); briefly mentioned that after our planting and watering, then God will take part to the growth.

In this case, Paul emphasized on how workers do their tasks and share both the same weight and the same wages. And so do us. Most of us might have planted the seed by sharing our faith to others, and shortly afterwards he heard the story of God's love from another person, until one day the seed grows in his life by the intervention of the Holy Spirit.

In the case of planting the seed, the Word of God reminds us to work together in sowing, watering, caring to reaping. If our preaching of the good news seems not fruitless, consider that we are sowing. We can give thanks and hope that someday other people would do what we do. For in the sovereignty of God, the seed of the word we sow will never be in vain. God wants us to do our part; preaching His words to others, and God will take part to touch them.

We are farmworkers who sow and water the seeds, while God is taking part in growing them.
