And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good–looking.

In 1911 Bobby Leach, a stuntman, went over Niagara Falls in a barrel. After the performance, Bobby survived though he had some injures. He was famous for his boldness.

A few years later, Bobby Leach became popular again. This time, he was known not for his performance, but his death. What’s more surprising was what he went through before he died. While he was walking on a road in New Zealand, Bobby slipped on an orange peel. His leg became infected and was amputated, and he died of complications.

We may have the same experience in our life. We are able to face the big jeopardy but conquered by little challenge. We are ready for the great trouble but can’t stand the little one. We are strong enough for Niagara Falls but not for an orange peel. These are consequences when we despise things and boast ourselves.

And so did Goliath when he met David. He despised a ruddy and good-looking young boy. He was convinced that he was greater and able to defeat him. However, history marked a tragic ending of the champion of the Philistines. Actually, before David took out a stone and slung it, Goliath was already defeated. When he was light-headed and despised his enemy, he lost the battle.

Therefore, in every circumstance and opportunity, be aware of everything. Do not be careless, do not underestimate things, and do not despise even the least challenge. Being careless is the beginning of one’s downfall. Remember, even an orange peel could kill Bobby Leach.

When we despised something, we become careless and that’s where danger lurks.
