Daniel 6:11
"Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days."
Bible Reading for a Year: Psalms 20; Matthew 20; 2 Chronicles 23-24
How do we respond to bad news? Recently we hear bad news more than good news. Do we run frantically, try to compromise so we can stay safe, or come to the Lord?
When he heard bad news, Daniel chose to come to the Lord. Why? Because that was his custom. It is written, “he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.” He has built the right habit: live intimately with God. The habit was not shaken even when he had to deal with death.
Today, what habit we want to build? If our habit is about depending on ourselves, wealth, power, and even other people then we could be worried, afraid, and sad when hearing bad news. But when we live intimately with God, we would be convinced that God is in control no matter how bad the news is.
By now, let us build the right custom—built intimacy with God every day, in fact built it three times a day just like Daniel. It will be an anchor for our soul when troubles shake us.
Bad news will not shake us as we know that the God of hosts is for us.
