What is your life like? For you are a puff of smoke that appears for a short time and then vanishes.

Without we realize, we have already been in the end of the year. Well, it is not actually about the end or not as this is only about calendar. There are so many calendars nowadays; calendar of Jews, Persian, Java, Hindu, China, and so on. Every calendar has its own calculation.

This year as we know is the west calendar (the year of Christ). This calendar is a masterpiece of Pope Gregory XIII in 1508 (therefore it is also called calendar of Gregory) whereas its calculation started from the birth of Jesus Christ.

However, out of which calendar is being used, the understanding of ‘the end of the year’ is still important. It reminds us about the impermanence of this life that everything on this earth will come to an end. Our lives with its bittersweet, succeed-failure, sooner or later will come to an end. The Apostle of James described this life as a puff of smoke that ‘appears for a short time and then vanishes’ ([bible]James4:14[/bible]). Yup, how fragile and brittle our lives on this earth are.  

Therefore, we should be wise living our days, so that we would not have a wrong step by letting God involved in our every plan ([bible]James4:15[/bible]).  Do not ever think that we are able to determine and do everything by ourselves, without God. This is wrong and conceit ([bible]James4:16[/bible]). Therefore, how great are we, we are not immortal.

Let us always remember Him and keep relying on the Creator in every path we take so that, our lives are always in His under control. Happy welcoming a new year – AYA
