Genesis 45:4-5
And Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come near to me.” So they came near. Then he said: “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.

If today you are asked, “Who had hurt you?” Could you mention the names one by one? Everyone must have been hurt, and most of those who hurt us are close people that we love. Thus, it’s easy to mention their names. It’s a long list of names, and perhaps you would retaliate against them if you had any chance.
And so it is with Joseph; he was hurt by his brothers not only verbally but also physically. At last, he became a slave. Later, the list of people who disappointed him kept getting longer—Potiphar’s wife that slandered him; Potiphar, whom he served faithfully, treated him unfairly; and the butler who overlooked him. However, Joseph’s fear to the Lord caused him to make right choices and changed his life and the world, as well.
If we read the book of Genesis carefully, then we will not find any anger in Joseph’s story. Long before his brothers came to Egypt, Joseph has forgotten and forgiven them. It was revealed when he named his first son Manasseh. Even when he pretended accusing them of being spies, Joseph hid yearning and love away from them. Joseph decided to forgive and forget people who had hurt and disappointed him. That brought him to maturity and sensitive conscience.
Do you know that resentment will kill our conscience so that we cannot be so sensitive to God’s presence and voice? Living in resentment is a scary and tiring lifestyle. In case you have list of names of people who hurt you, come to Jesus, bring them before Him and forgive them. Give up the right to judge them because we have already received the grace of forgiveness from God.
If we cannot forgive those who hurt us, then we are imprisoned in resentment and wound.
