There are many names of God in the Bible, where those names were not just a name given by the people, but it is a depiction of God Himself. Those names declare the aspects of His characters. Among these are: Elohim is used to describe Him as the God of the whole earth ( see Isaiah 54:5), El - Shaddai describes God as the Almighty; Jehovah Nissi, The Lord is my Banners; Jehovah Shalom, the God of peace, etc.
There may be the name of God is often referred to many believers; Jehovah Jireh, which means God provides. The name was first called by Abraham on Mount Moriah when he was about to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac to God. When He knew that Abraham did what He commanded, He spoke through an angel, "Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me” (Genesis 22:12). Then the Lord provided a lamb as a substitute to be sacrificed. From this story, came the name of Jehovah Jireh which means God provides.
Indeed, if we look at the story in Genesis chapter 22, the word 'God provides' born after Abraham did what God commanded to him; an act of faith which is willing to give up his most prized possessions in his life, Isaac.
Like a father who loves his children, God also very loves us as His children. He will provide what we need. God says, "Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body, what you will wear." (Matthew 6:25a). We often require God to provide whatever we need but we do not want to give up what is valuable in our lives whether is our time, energy, thoughts, even our wealth.
If we love God with all of our heart and want to do all that is commanded, no matter what we definitely need must be provided because He is Jehovah Jireh.
