John 16:8
And when He has come, He will convict the
world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment

Roberto Salazar, a 6-year-old boy, rarely
cries. It is caused by a rare disorder; Hereditary Sensory and Autonomic
Neuropathy. This causes one cannot feel any pain or is known as numbness.
One day, he was asked to gnaw on his own
tongue to the point of mutilation. His parents were panic, but he still felt
nothing. Some other time, Roberto fell and hurt his leg. Instead of yelling or
asking for help, he stood in silence. Roberto then got up and walked again with
his leg wound. Such condition is very dangerous for children at his age. He
couldn’t be aware if his body was burnt or cut.
Pain is not pleasant. But do you know that
pain is necessary for us perceiving something wrong? It is just like the Holy
Spirit who gives us pain when we sin.
The Holy Spirit warns and convicts us so we
repent. He reminds us of what Christ has ever said ([bible]0john16:13-14[/bible]).
As the spirit of truth, He leads us into righteousness. Therefore, He will convict
us when we sin.
His rebuke might make us feel pain and
guilty. However, it is important in order to make us find a chance to the way
of the Lord. Without warning, we can easily go astray by temptations. Like
Roberto, sins can numb us. They can lead us astray without us realizing.
Therefore, be grateful when the Holy Spirit
keeps convicting and warning you when you sin. It means that He is working in
your life! Listen to and appreciate His warning! Don’t let your heart become
numb. (JTI/Sabda.org/yk)
For those who refuse the Holy Spirit’s conviction, the darkness
seems like light.
