Ephesians 6:12

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

In the story of the Trojan War, the Greek warriors tried to breach the wall around Troy for about ten years, but as they could not find a way in, they built a huge wooden horse with the Greek army hiding inside. Then, they would sail away and pretend to leave. The Trojans received the horse, as if it was the winning trophy, and then dragged the horse inside the city gates. That was a trick—the Greek army hiding inside the wooden horse climbed out and opened the gates; let the waiting Greek army enter Troy. That was the end of Troy.

Many times we believers are also trapped in the devil’s snare. We are spied in a fierce battle. It is not physical warfare like Trojan War, but spiritual warfare in an invisible realm. Our enemies are the principalities, powers and rulers of the darkness of this age. They are wicked and evil. With their trickery, they breach the believers’ defensive wall to destroy the unity and contaminate our purity. They attack and destruct churches, families, courts, as well as countries. Finally, there is division in the body.

But in Ephesians 6:12 we learn that we need to take up the whole armor of God to the devil (Ephesians 6:13-16). Therefore, we have to cling steadfastly to the Word of God and also pray so that devil’s trick such as provocation, hatred, envy, lust and evil would not have authority over us. Ask God to give us power to defeat the devil.

The Word of God is a powerful weapon to fight the devil.
