Colossians 2:8

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

Bible Reading for a Year  [bible]psalm69[/bible]; [bible]hebre3[/bible]; [bible]micah6-7[/bible]

Trinity. Vietnam Rose. Belladona. Lucifer. What beautiful names they are. But that would be different when we put those names on bad things or bad people. Trinity is an atomic bomb dispatched to the Japanese city of Hiroshima, 1945. Vietnam Rose is a sexually transmitted disease suffered by American soldiers during Vietnam War in the 1970s. Belladonna or “a beautiful lady” is a poisonous plant. And Lucifer, star of the morning, is an archangel who turned into the devil!

Many bad things are so perfectly covered that we cannot know what’s inside. We might be deceived. The Apostle Paul reminds us to not be cheated by “philosophy and empty deceit” not according to Christ (v. 8). Many great philosophies seem to offer life and salvation, but not according to Christ. We believers are determined to be rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith (v. 7). If not, we can be enticed by many false prophets who are trying to turn us away from Christ (see I John 4:1).

How to ward off the devil’s trick? There is no way but by getting close to God. By doing so, we will not be easily captivated by beautiful names or wonderful packing, and we can test every spirit (I John 4:1) to determine if they are from God. –HIS
