Ecclesiastes 10:1
Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, And cause it to give off a foul odor; So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor.

A saying “as a result of a speck of indigo, broken pot of milk” has a deep meaning. That saying is like a proverb used in Ecclesiastes 10:1 “one dead fly makes the perfumer’s ointment give off a rancid stench.” And this one follows: “a little folly can outweigh much wisdom.”
A fly is less significant than a perfumer’s ointment. However, when the fly is dead and gets into the ointment, it gives off a foul odor.
This scripture reminds us, the believers, not to be fool, even if it doesn’t seem so significant. A folly, even if it’s a little, can destroy the reputation that we have already built for years. As a human, we tend to despise “a little folly”—we compromise because we want to be accepted by peers or to gain more benefits. For an instance, we compromise to do money laundering in our company or we join in an unhealthy community.
Another example is when we tell dirty jokes. Even thought we want to entertain others, the dirty jokes can ruin another’s perspective toward us. Don’t despise our words and actions as they can be stumbling blocks for others (the non-believers). Besides, we also have to mind our lifestyle because it might be “dead flies” that make us give off a foul odor in society.
Therefore, God tells us about
light inside the believers that can turn into darkness.
