Psalm 71:3
Be my strong refuge, to which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress.

720 people were frantically running out of The Apollo Theater in Soho, Westminster, London, England on December 19, 2013. The Apollo Theater is one of London’s most popular theatres. It was built in 1901 and renovated in 1932. The fire department spokesperson Graham Ellis said that the cause of the downfall was the heavy ornaments located on the ceiling of the building. The ornaments were dropped right at the spectators below. At least 76 people were injured and were taken to hospital.
We usually feel safe when we stay inside a building. It becomes a shelter and a refuge. But, no matter how strong a building is, it is not anti-collapse. Like The Apollo Theatre, its collapse can damage everyone inside it. This tragedy reminds us that it is totally wrong to put our trust in perishable things or people—no matter how strong or powerful they seem.
Nothing is reliable but God. We can rely on Him only. He is the anti-collapse support. Today’s bible reading tells us that those who take refuge in the Lord will never be ashamed. Since their birth, in their youth, and in their old age, they will always be protected (vv. 5-6, 9 , 17-18). Certainly, God is the strong refuge (vv. 3, 7). Put your hope in Him! –AW
Relying on perishable things leads to disappointment. Relying on the eternal God is our security.
