Nearly all men in this world are struck with the virus of impatience. We are impatient with husband or wife or children, impatient with the maids at home, impatient with the employees. Moreover, we are impatient to get the answer of our prayer from God.
Everyone wants instant things such as fast food; we want to reach success instantly, get wealth instantly, get the life partner instantly, etc.
The Word of God advises us, “as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on … longsuffering. Bearing with one another,” (Colossians 3:12-13a) because “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32)
Why does every believer have to own longsuffering? Because we are the children of God; we should have inherited the characters of our Father, one of which is longsuffering.
The Lord Jesus indeed is the main example of longsuffering. To those who mocked, spat, persecuted, even crucified Him, Jesus was long-suffering and prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." (Luke 23:34a). The longsuffering of God leads to forgiveness!
