John 1:5
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it
Bible reading for A Year:[bible]Psalm148[/bible];[bible]Revel4[/bible]; [bible]Esthe1-2[/bible]
I have read a newspaper article about a man who was having a little trouble with Christmas and was shooting off some steam. For this man, however, it resulted in a trip to jail. It all started when he went to put up Christmas lights outside, only to discover they were wadded up in a giant ball. Upset with his wife for balling up the lights, he was trying to untangle them when his daughter returned home in her car. She backed over the lights he had just managed to untangle. Needing to vent his frustration, he went into his backyard, pulled out his 45-caliber pistol, and began firing shots into the ground. Meanwhile, his family was decorating their Christmas tree. The police were called, who then came and arrested him for reckless endangerment. He told the officers that he had attended some anger management classes a few months before and thought that discharging his gun would help him discharge his anger.
This is a classic example of someone who was missing the whole point of Christmas. Certainly this time of year can be like that for many people. You can go to endless parties and malls, listen to countless Christmas songs, and can give gifts to everyone imaginable. Yet the One whose very birth, life, death, and resurrection we should be celebrating can be completely forgotten. Many of us become so preoccupied that we forget about the Lord.
They missed Christmas the first time around too. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, by and large, most people did not grasp the significance of what had happened. They were too busy and preoccupied with other things.
Don't miss Christmas this year. Make room for Jesus.
