Nathaniel Hawthorne is really disappointed. He has just received the news of functional shifting from the place where he works at Boston Customs Office, Massachusetts. He is apparently layoff. That bad news as though has crushed his life and all things have come to an end. He walks home by the feeling upset and confuse. He always remembers to his wife and that day has become a long day for him.
By arriving at home, he tells about that news to his wife. His wife then hugs him, take a pen and ink and put them on the table near the fireplace. “Do not be sad,” she said. “You have much time now. You can start to write.” It has been 4 years after that touching moment happened. Hawthorne has become popular and well known in all over the world. He wrote a novel, The Scarlet Letter.
Failure in one field can be a trigger for other success in another field. The key is to not ever give up, keep trying, and especially stay focus on God, the Source of Life. If God allows something to happen, then there must be a good purpose behind it.
That is God’s promise to His people in this Bible reading today. In the middle of misery and confusing about the future, God brings a hope through Jeremiah. So, will we believe and continue to put our hopes in Him?
God sometimes closes one door to open other doors.
