Proverb 17:22

A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.

Bible Reading for a Year [bible]psalm16[/bible]; [bible]matth16[/bible]; [bible]genes31-32[/bible]

An old man was sitting under a shady tree when a young man came to him. The young man looked depressed. Then he said to the old man, “Why is my life full of problems?” The old man took a glass of water and a handful of salt. He poured the salt into the glass and stirred. Then, he gave the young man the glass, and asked him to drink the water. “How does it taste?” the old man asked. The young man replied, “It’s very salty, Sir.”

Later, the old man brought the young man to a lake near his house. He poured out the salt into the lake. “Drink the water from this lake!” he commanded the young man. “It’s so fresh!” he replied.

“Well, now you have tasted both. How could the water in the glass be saltier than water in this lake? Of course, it’s because the glass is a smaller container compared to the lake. And so it is with life. When you experience bitterness, and you’re hurt, you should have a great container so it’s not hurting you anymore. By doing so, you will be happy. The container is your heart. So you have to enlarge your heart to accept everything that happens in your life,” the old man told the young.

This parable reminds us that in everything, it is necessary to be grateful. By being grateful, you are guarding your heart. Heart is the source of life. Heart is as important as water in life. When there’s no water, nothing would be alive. And, if you have heart and you don’t let it hurt, then you are enjoying your life. Don’t let your heart be filled with bitterness that can bring you down. Remember than God binds up every wound. He heals and cures. He is always there for you.
