The apostles and the early church had to deal with persecution and difficulties until the end of their life. However, they did that happily and excitedly because they knew they were chasing the divine purpose.

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.~2 Corinthians 12:10
