Hello, I am Billy Simpson. Entering music industry and singing are my dream. However, if God never makes my dream come true until I die, I will never be disappointed nor complain to God. I still have so many things that God has commended me, right?

Before participating in The Voice Indonesia competition, I was a creative director in a sports company. That job pleased me, and I was already comfort with that. Even though I was not famous among Indonesia people, I have been taking part in a church where I worship until today, that is JPCC, and I serve there as a songwriter and worship leader. To me, that was more than what I expected.

Music is powerful

From the experiences I have gone through, I knew that music is something quite powerful. It can inspire and restore other’s life.

Hence, I have committed to use my music for a better purpose including inspiring and blessing a lot of people.

To achieve that goal, I keep exploring myself continually. I dig every potency that God has given me. The process is not easy, but I know that it’s good to me.

The Beginning of Participating in The Voice Indonesia

There are so many people who always said to me, “Bill, you have no proper appearance to be a singer.” Don’t be mistaken, I did not let myself down by the words they said. Instead, I was pushed ahead to try better and encouraged to meet record labels.

As a result, all the record labels that I met at that time rejected me and suggest me to keep working at office.

After those events, I heard that there’s a singing competition held by a private TV station. Led by curiosity about my talents, I recklessly registered myself to join The Voice Indonesia competition.

Keep in mind that my luck with everything about competition was not quite good. Since I was little, I always lost in any competitions. So when I joined The Voice Indonesia singing contest, I told God, “I simply participated. Whether I win or lose, let God determine. I just do my part.”

The competition ran, and after passing some stages, as it is known, I became a winner. Surely, I was so happy to be the first champion in The Voice Indonesia, but I thought that it’s just a beginning; there’re still many processes that I have to go through. Because I believe in what someone ever said, ‘Talent can bring you up, but only character can help you stay there’. I knew that my characters will help me stay not only in music industry, but also in this life.

What God Means To Me

To me, God is essential. Talents and gifts that I already had were from God. If I could be a blessing for other people by developing my talents, then that was a privilege which God has commended me in my life.

Unsatisfied Yet

Since then I considered whether I satisfied or unsatisfied yet with the achievement I have accomplished. I considered where I should stop achieving my dreams, and I let God determine. At the moment, I am unsatisfied yet with my winning in The Voice. Why? Because I’m still waiting for the upcoming album and there are many things I want to do.

God will keep bring us up, not down. So, there are still many big things ahead that God has provided; not only for my life, but also other people’s life.

Living Values that Are Held

There are 3 values that I hold in my life:

1. Creativity comes from God. As long as we connect to the source of the creativity, we will always be creative. The creativity never ends. I am not afraid if I have to keep writing songs, so I will keep writing. It never stops. You can say that you will never run out of inspirations. It’s not me who is great, but God that lives in me.

2. Never compare. Do not ever compare ourselves with others. We all have our own life story. So, be relaxed. It’s okay.

3. We are all men to do great things. All of us are supposed to do great things. Why? Because we worship great God and we are designed in God’s image and in His likeness.

To me, walking with God is fun because life becomes better, happier, and more focused.
