Luke 1:38
Mary said, “Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.”
Bible Reading for A Year:[bible]Prove5[/bible];[bible]0John15[/bible];[bible]iChro23-24[/bible]
At the age of 16 years old, Jeanne Guyon (1648-1717) was forced to marry a 22-year-old disabled man. But in her marriage, she felt very humiliated. Her husband often got angry and was melancholic. Her mother-in-law was a ruthless critic. Even her maid had turned her down. Although she has been trying hard to devote herself to her husband and her family, she was still criticized harshly.
Since she was forbidden to go to the church by her husband, she sought God through the Bible and worshipped secretly. She learned that in the midst of a bleak situation though, she "was in a very good condition, safe in the God's hands". In her book Experiencing The Depths Of Jesus Christ, she wrote, "The attitude of full surrender [to Christ] is the key to gain incomprehensible understanding. Attitude of surrender is a key to the spiritual life."
How do we respond to difficult circumstances with an attitude that would accept and surrender? Mary’s respons to the angel in [bible]0Luke1:38[/bible] is an example for us. The only way to have the same attitude as Maria is to believe that God's will is "good, ... pleasing to God, perfect ..." ([bible]0Rome12: 2 [/bible]), we will set aside our desire, and surrender to Him every day patiently.
Thus we can also pray: Be unto me according to thy word.
Those who surrender to God would never be forsaken by God
