Matthew 5:13
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its savor, how
shall it be salted? It is thereafter good for nothing, but to be cast out, and
to be trodden under foot of men.

The basic characteristic of salt is influencing its surroundings. Why does it influence? It’s
because salt can make all food taste salty. Then how about a candle in the
dark? Imagine that in a dark room there is only a little candle that light. The
characteristic of salt and candle is similar: they influence their surroundings.
You can do some activities around where the candle is, because it produces light. Therefore to influence others also mean to be useful for others.
Why does God give us parable of salt? It’s because He wants you to be an
influence and bring positive impact. When God put you somewhere, He expects you
to bring positive impact for your surroundings. He wants you to be different
from others.
How to an impact and light of the Lord? Surely, you have to be reconciled
with yourself first, and then you can bring reconciliation for others. Show
them your love in every action. There’s no other way. It’s only by love and
through love that you can be an influence. Your cleverness is in vain if you
don’t have love upon the others.
Though I speak with the
tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass,
or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand
all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could
remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-2)
Let’s do all things based on love for others, and you will become as little candle that lights.
