Philippians 3:13-14

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do , forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

Bible Reading for a Year: Psalms 15; Matthew 15; Genesis 29-30

Sandra was born into a poor family. Her father was a drunk. Almost every night, she found her father drunk as he went home. At that time, she was 7 years old. Now Sandra is grown up, she was 17 years old. She still remembers how she prayed every morning and asked God to stop her father being drunk.

And today is her father’s birthday. Sandra wants to give him surprise, a birthday cake, tonight. But she’s not so sure how to do it if her father comes home drunk. The surprise will fail. So this morning, Sandra prays to God, asks Him to make today a new day for her family. She prays that her father will not be drunk anymore. Her wish has been established. She has been praying for it for 10 years, since she was little. Sandra believes that the hope in God is eternal. Praying will change everything.

It is 7 p.m., and when her father comes home, Sandra gives him a birthday cake. Sandra and her family are glad to see this man smiling. But the most shocking thing is his father is not drunk tonight. He says to Sandra and his whole family, “I thought you never remember my birthday. I am so sorry. From today, I will not be a drunk anymore.”

Since then and up to today, Sandra’s father is never drunk. To Sandra, the past has encouraged her to stand firm before the Lord and to be an obedient child to her parents. She loves her father completely. Since that night, Sandra and her family have a piece of blank paper to write with millions of joy they are going through together.

Every child cannot choose which family they are born into. Even before a child is in the womb, he/she has a beautiful story. The story is written by the awesome Creator; Lord Jesus Christ.

Be grateful for what you have gone through in the past for He will give you hope in the future.
