The eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang, East Java on December 4, 2021, resulted in injuries and even death, and a lot of damage. More than nine thousand people have been displaced and some will be relocated.
Hearing this incident, the CBN and Obor Berkat Indonesia (OBI) teams did not remain silent. On December 14, 2021, the CBN and OBI teams left for Lumajang to provide health services for victims of the Mount Semeru eruption.
The CBN and OBI teams started serving the community the next day. A total of 305 people managed to get health services. Diseases experienced by many villagers are musculoskeletal complaints (aches) due to fatigue, hypertension (high blood pressure) and Upper Respiratory Infection.
On December 16, 2021, the team that was carrying out health services was greeted with a follow-up eruption. But this does not dampen the team's spirit to keep serving. They went to Supiturang Village and met a woman who was already quite old and managed to save herself from the aftershocks.
Mrs Ngatmintem is a resident who lives not far from the disaster site. When disaster strikes, she runs as fast as possible until she doesn't have time to wear sandals to avoid the danger of further eruptions. Her hands were shaking terribly with fear.
When she met the team, she complained of back pain and itchy hands due to the ash eruption. Mrs. Ngatmintem was very grateful for the presence of the CBN and OBI teams because they could help her and other affected communities.
We also thank CBN Partners who have supported this service, so that Mrs. Ngatmintem and other families of victims of the Mount Semeru eruption can get medical assistance. Let's continue to support this service, so that CBN can continue to distribute aid to communities affected by disasters anywhere. Click below.
