GMIT Betel Tumu, located in Second Hamlet of Oinlasi Village, South Central Timor, continues to strive as a beacon of faith amidst the challenges of poverty and limited access to education and healthcare. With the majority of the congregation working as farmers, motorcycle taxi drivers, and daily laborers, this village faces various complex social issues. However, the spirit of the congregation to grow in faith remains the driving force behind real change.
Since September 2023, CBN Indonesia has been equipping GMIT Betel Tumu through the Superbook program to support the spiritual growth of children by providing a Sunday school curriculum based on Bible animation. This program has helped children and their families become more active in church and involved in ministry.
Furthermore, CBN has partnered with this church through the Super5 Early Childhood Education program and the School of Life Learning Center for children aged 3-14 years old. Through these programs, each child receives preparation for formal education and literacy development.
To date, GMIT Betel Tumu continues to support the spiritual and educational growth of 74 Superbook Sunday school children, 60 School of Life children, and 25 Super5 Early Childhood Education children.
The Impact of Children – From Bullying Friends to Becoming a Better Child
Before joining the School of Life at GMIT Betel Tumu, NTT, Arjun (12-year-old) used to be mischievous and would hit his friends. It made him shunned by many of his friends. But since joining the School of Life at GMIT Betel Tumu in August 2024, he has changed. Through the guidance of his teachers and the lesson 'I Love Peace,' Arjun began to understand himself and change his behavior. He is now a gentler, more polite, and diligent child. This transformation is also evident in his attitude in class — he is not only a better and kinder child but also diligent and easy to follow. 'Now, I don’t want to hit my friends anymore and always trying to be kind to them.'
Support and Assistance CBN Has Provided
In December 2024, CBN in collaboration with Obor Berkat Indonesia Foundation provided facility support to Super5 Early Childhood Education in Betel Tumu, in the form of tables, chairs, bookshelves, dividers, and play facilities.
Thanks to this support, dozens of Early Childhood Education children, who previously had to study in a large church space that was not conducive to learning, are now able to study in a more comfortable environment. These children can even enjoy playing activities in the playground set up in the churchyard.
However, there are still many more needs to be met. We are still inviting generous people like you to support this ecosystem’s growth through the following plans:
1. Development and training for the use of Super5 Early Childhood Education curriculum, School of Life, and Superbook.
2. Salary subsidies and capacity-building for teachers through regular training and certification.
3. Providing free meals for School of Learning Center once a week.
4. Parent-child bonding costs and strengthening family foundations through The Parenting Project classes.
5. Improving the economic welfare of families through humanitarian initiatives, including health services, agricultural and business capital assistance, entrepreneurship skills training, and disaster preparedness for churches.
With your support, each of these plans can become a reality, turning GMIT Betel Tumu into a place of impactful discipleship for the children and their families. If you are moved to support this ecosystem, please click the button 'I Want to Be a Sponsor!' and be part of this change.
