Child Discipleship in Orahili Nias Community: A Solution to Prepare Children for Changing Times
Holistic Disciple Making Ecosystem
BNKP Orahili Church is a community located in Orahili Fau Village, Fanayama District, South Nias, serving around 390 adult congregants and 80 Sunday School children. The church has a strong desire to regularly disciple children through Sunday School.
Until finally in 2019, the church began partnering with CBN through the Superbook Sunday School curriculum. Since then, transformation has continually taken place in the lives of the children served. The church's focus on discipleship has expanded to include children aged 3-14 through the ECCE Super5 program and the School of Life learning center from CBN. The church’s commitment is to prepare every child to face the challenges of changing times.
As of September 2024, BNKP Orahili Church, in partnership with CBN, has served:
- 28 children of ECCE Super5 program every three times a week
- 65 children of School of Life learning center every four times a week
- 80 children of Superbook Sunday School

CBN supports the development of discipleship at BNKP Orahili Church through:
- Development and training in the use the curriculum of ECCE Super5, School of Life, Superbook, and The Parenting Project
- Competency enhancement for teachers through regular training
- Reguler training for parents to create physically and spiritually healthy families.
The Impact of Holistic Discipleship
Before CBN's discipleship program, children in the Orahili community received little attention and supervision. Parents’ busy work schedules forced children to fill their days playing gadgets or wandering aimlessly, leading to low interest in learning. Consequently, many children experienced delays in reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
However, this situation changed when BNKP Orahili Church implemented CBN's holistic discipleship program, helping children in this community improve. 'The ECCE children’s knowledge has improved significantly when they move up to elementary school,' said Kesadaran Nehe, one of the teachers at BNKP Orahili Church.
The School of Life learning center has also become a place for children to grow. Through home visits and tutoring, children are improving academically and developing more positive character traits. For example, Valensiskus (12 years old), who used to bully others and enjoyed playing, has become friendly toward his peers since becoming active in the School of Life. Not only that, but his academic performance in school has also continued to improve.
