Hundreds of children in Naibonat Village, East Kupang District, East Nusa Tenggara have the same dreams as other children: wanting to get an equal education and become successful people. However, they are threatened with not being able to fulfill their dreams because tehir family's economic condition does not support them to get the best education.
Astin, a 10-year-old girl who lives in Naibonat Village, NTT with her father and younger sibling, is forced to take on the role of a mother at home. Her mother went to Jakarta to work as a migrant worker due to the family's difficult economic situation, while her father is only a driver for someone else's pick-up truck. The eldest of two siblings, Asti often sacrifices her study time to take care of her younger sibling at home while her father works.

Just like Astin, economic hardship often forces parents to focus on earning money while their children's education is neglected. Without guidance and support, children in Naibonat Village grow up unable to read, write, and count.
“There are children drop out of school due to financial problems and economic needs, forcing their parents to become migrant workers or work outside the city like Asti's mother. There are also those who have to leave their wives and children, even husbands and wives go abroad to meet their economic needs,' said the Shepherd of GMIT Ekklesia Airkom, Rev. Elisabeth Riwu.
CBN Presents Discipleship Program
CBN, in collaboration with Evangelical Christian Church in Timor (GMIT) Ekklesia Airkom in East Nusa Tenggara, is present to address the issues in this community through a holistic child discipleship ecosystem. We offer discipleship programs for children aged 3-14 years old, namely PAUD Super5, Superbook Sunday School and School of Life Learning Center, and parents are also discipled through The Parenting Project program.
To realize a holistic impact, CBN continues to support this community sustainably through well and clean water assistance, health services, and nutrition improvement for children through Garden for School. The hope is that every child and their family can have a better life.

To date, the support provided by CBN has had a real impact on the GMIT Ekklesia Airkom community. 'Since the implementation of this curriculum, we have witnessed an impact or change. So, children who previously didn't know how to read, like those in grade 6 of elementary school who still had difficulty reading, have experienced a lot of changes after participating in this program. The teachers also find it easier to help them because the teachers also receive training.'
Even Asti, who often skipped tutoring sessions at the School of Life, was given support by finding a solution by bringing her younger sister with her to study. By her father's consent, she finally became active in the School of Life Learning Center at GMIT Ekklesia Airkom. The regular parent meetings held by the church also succeeded in changing parents' understanding of child education, from being indifferent to being involved in assisting their children. 'I saw some parents who dropped their children off and waited until the end. Of the 60-70 children who attended, about 20 of them had their parents there.'
