In Lae Hole Village, Sidikalang, North Sumatra, a community struggles to make ends meet every day. Parents work hard in the fields from morning to evening, leaving their children unsupervised and neglected.
'This is still a village, far from everything. Parents work in the fields, so the children roam around without supervision,' said Christina Simanjuntak, one of the teachers at the GKKD Lae Hole church in Sidikalang.
As a result, the children have a low interest in learning and poor character.
'Actions like Kevin's stealing happen because his parents are busy working,' said Christina, explaining the problem of one of her students named Kevin (12 years old).

Kevin, a child from the Christian Church of David's Tabernacle (GKKD) Lae Hole church congregation, admitted to stealing because he was jealous of his friends who could buy snacks at school. His family's economic condition is difficult, relying only on his mother as the breadwinner with a daily wage of Rp 70,000 as a farm laborer, while his father cannot work due to illness.
When asked what he used the money for, he said it was to change his family's difficult life.
Discipleship CBN Brings Change
A ray of hope has arrived, bringing change to the lives of Kevin and dozens of children in Lae Hole Village, Sidikalang. CBN Indonesia and the GKKD Lae Hole church network have partnered to implement a child discipleship program through the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Super5 curriculum, Superbook Sunday School, and the School of Life Learning Center. In addition, we also support the needs of children from underprivileged families by providing capital assistance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)and farmer groups, providing wells and clean water, and improving nutrition and health services. The goal of this program is to bring about holistic transformation for children and their families.

This holistic discipleship ecosystem has helped GKKD Lae Hole equip every child to grow better. The teaching materials and teacher support have transformed the lives of children, such as a child who used to be rude now becoming more polite. A child who used to be a bully now loves others more. Even a child like Kevin, who used to steal, no longer steals. Kevin's change happened after watching the Superbook animated story about Jonah in Sunday school. He saw himself as Jonah, who was disobedient. The truth of God's word that 'stealing is a sin' made Kevin stop stealing.
Not only providing spiritual guidance, CBN through the GKKD Lae Hole church also provides capital assistance to underprivileged families. One of them is Kevin's parents, who received business capital assistance to plant cabbage, with the hope that their family's economy can be helped.
Mrs. Christina is grateful that the children they serve can positively impact their families. 'Parents see the growth of their children. They say, 'We never prayed before eating at home. But after my child went to school, we are not allowed to eat without praying,'' she said.
