“Joy, where’s your Dad?”
“You don’t have a Dad, do you?”
Joy was always teased by my friends because until I was 7 years old my dad never came home. There is a sense of sadness every time I was ridiculed or asked about my dad, and sometimes I was upset because I think my dad did not love Joy.
Seeing my friends being driven by their fathers also made me lazy to go to Sunday school. Especially if I was studying father figures in the Bible, I wouldn't listen. That's because I'm upset that I never felt daddy's presence in my life.
My mom always knew whenever i was upset, and she would assure Joy that all fathers love their children. I was also constantly reminded of the Superbook story about Abraham and Isaac that we learned at GKB Bengkong Sunday School, Batam. Just as Abraham loved Isaac, my mom assured me that Daddy loved Joy too and that someday he would come home.
From Superbook's lessons, Joy began to accept Daddy’s condition. I also no longer want to be upset and sad if I am teased by friends. I often ignored them because I believed the Lord Jesus would answer my prayer so that my Dad could go home. Now I'm also going to Sunday school diligently and I'm always happy to help prepare for worship. Even if asked to testify or pray, I would raise my hand and be willing to lead.
