CBN Focuses on Building a Holistic Disciple Making Ecosystem

In 2023, CBN Indonesia has a focus on building a Holistic Disciple Making Ecosystem that meets the physical, spiritual, and welfare needs of children and parents. Currently, CBN is building 31 discipleship ecosystems across Indonesia, ranging from Jakarta, Jombang, Nias, Batam, Minahasa, to Sumba.

In these discipleship ecosystems, CBN provides various discipleship programs for children aged 3 to 14 years old and their parents, such as Superbook, Children's Learning Center SOL, Early Childhood Education Program of Super5, and Parenting Program. Especially for underprivileged families, CBN also provides economic and health assistance through Small and Medium Micro Enterprise programs, farmer groups, clean water supply, as well as nutrition and health improvement programs. The goal is to help transform the physical, spiritual, and well-being of children and parents.

Starting this month, we will introduce one Holistic Disciple Making Ecosystem each month. The Tanah Merah ecosystem in Jakarta will be the first. Tanah Merah is one of the slums in North Jakarta, where the population consists of many migrants from Java, Sumatra, NTT, and Papua. They live in cramped rented houses with mediocre incomes. Since 2009, CBN has been working together with Obor Berkat Indonesia to help the community in Tanah Merah.

In Tanah Merah, we have nine teachers who are very enthusiastic to disciple the children and serve the parents. Our teachers often visit their students' homes and build a close relationship with the parents. The parents' meeting is always a much-awaited event as they can have a heart-to-heart talk and be personally assisted by our teachers.

Until now, around 600 students from early childhood education and 500 students from elementary, middle and high schools have graduated, and 43 families have been given Small and Medium Micro Enterprise (SMME) assistance. This year, around 200 children will be served through the Super5 PAUD program, SOL, PKBM, and five underprivileged families will receive MSME assistance. We believe that through this ecosystem, many generations will rise who love God, love the Word, and have a missionary heart.

The following is Mrs. Ika's Story - The Impact of the Discipleship Ecosystem in Tanah Merah.

Mrs. Ika Warni is the mother of Akram, a grade 1 student of Package A at the OBI school in Tanah Merah, Jakarta. She has to struggle to fulfill her daily needs as a widow of three and a sufferer of stage 3B breast cancer. Mrs. Ika opened a small store in front of her rented house which is close to Akram's school. However, the income from her business is not enough to fulfill her family's needs.

Teachers at Akram's school often prayed for Mrs. Ika's condition, and God answered their prayers. Mrs. Ika received business capital assistance from CBN to start a chicken pecel (salad made of blanched vegetables served with peanut sauce) stall. Since August 2022, her business has been selling well and continues to grow its menu and regular catering customers. Currently, Mrs. Ika has been able to pay rent, pay her debts, and provide for her family. In fact, her cancer has been successfully operated on and declared cured by the doctor.

Mrs. Ika is grateful for the business capital assistance from CBN that helps her family live without lack. She is also grateful that her children can get free education through CBN. She feels that God really answers the prayers of teachers and changes their lives for the better. Mrs. Ika is proof that with determination and prayer, anything can happen and life can be better.
